Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou (Saint Louis, Misuri 4 de abril de 1928) es una poeta y novelista estadounidense. Ha escrito, tres libros de ensayo y algunos libros de poesía, además de coautora en obras de teatro, películas y series televisivass.  Ha recibido docenas de premios y doctorados honoris causa.  También activista por los derechos civiles, actriz y cantante estadounidense. Es sobre todo conocida por sus libros autobiográficos, entre ellos I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings (Sé porqué canta el pájaro enjaulado) en la que relataba las traumáticas experiencias que padeció durante su infancia. Fue también profesora de literatura y estudios afro-americanos en la Universidad Wake Forest, en Carolina del Norte.

Maya Angelou (born Marguerite Ann Johnson; April 4, 1928) is an American author and poet. She has published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning more than fifty years. She has received dozens of awards and over thirty honorary doctoral degrees. Angelou is best known for her series of seven autobiographies, which focus on her childhood and early adult experiences. The first, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1969), tells of her life up to the age of seventeen, and brought her international recognition and acclaim.
